Come engage with sound in a whole new way – sponsored by the Center for Creative Inquiry, Dr. Pauline Oliveros, one of the foremost composers of our time, will offer intensive teachings in her practice of Deep Listening®, August 13-17, 2012 at Ratna Ling Retreat Center.
Oliveros, founder of the Deep Listening Institute of Kingston, NY, describes Deep Listening as the experience of heightened awareness of sound, silence and sounding. Benefits from the Deep Listening practice include expanded awareness of time and space, relaxation that supports musical activity, an expanding sense of humor, dissolution of old limits and opening to new patterns. Participants will have the chance to explore how appreciation for sound can offer fundamental insights into how we can change the world we experience. Musicians of all abilities and styles, practitioners of meditation and yoga, or anyone simply wishing to cultivate creative thinking, are invited to participate in Deep Listening exercises in the meditative atmosphere of Ratna Ling. Participants in the Intensive will explore core concepts of improvisation in an Open Circle. There will be improvisations with and without instruments. There will also be opportunities to work alone and in pairs, trios and larger groups, drawing on Deep Listening practices explored in the Open Circle exercises. The work of the intensive will also be supported by the optional morning practice of Kum Nye – a Tibetan yoga that relaxes body and mind and opens the senses — and through experiential sessions grounded in the Time-Space-Knowledge Vision (TSK) a special teaching for the West developed by Tibetan lama Tarthang Tulku. The TSK vision is the inspiration for the work of the Center for Creative Inquiry. Oliveros’ pioneering way to engage sound resonates at a deep level with the TSK Vision and the practice of Creative Inquiry. Price Structure:
