With greater frequency, there have been moments of feeling that arrival into the body just occured. Not just a mental ???What am i???What is this???Where is this??? but also a brief glowing surge passing through the body. I put my hand in front of my eyes and look at it with such awe and wonder, and yet confusion…What is all this?? These moments don’t seem to be activity dependent, and occur at various times. Does anyone experience this, and has anyone gained understanding about what this reality is? I see people going about with such confidence and determination in their way of life, and such a question must seem impractical. Still, it must be in one sense a very fundamental question even if not popular.

felt it like this a few times in my life. This wonder and mistery of just being alive… being what we are, going deep into experiencing it.
“The true miracle is that we are here, walking on this beautiful planet of ours…” said a vietnamese buddhist master.
I dont dont if I got any understanding about what this reality is, but I think this is what we have been calling “Presence”, “Being” or al least it seems to make an integral part of it.
As you say people are always going about in such confidence in their lifes, they are always “being… someone”, without space for this ‘neutral’ and rich quality of just being.
In daily life this feeling or experience seems to be not only impractical but truly dangerous to the “status quo”! Unless you are an artist, or working in the field of creativity somehow… am I wrong?

I suppose this is true, and I myself am studying fine art currently. I do still wonder though if the art world does not have its own “closed” system of ctiteria and norms much as any other field. In addition, I wonder, “why this world?” I don’t mean that in the search for a causality explanation, but why this world as such, as it exists? Why a reality where the mystery can be avoided, and does not rest on the surface of all everyone does so that it would be unavoidable? I realize there is perhaps not an answer for this, but it is a curious thing.

Curious indeed, Tim. It seems like a little consciousness can be a dangerous (or at least a very inconvineient) thing. So many people are completely unincumbered by the mystery of this world. They are not troubled by these metaphysical questions, and as such, I would say that they’re able to lead more productive lives. More successful, at least in terms of the simple-minded community standards that rule our society and encourage goal-oriented self-confidence.
The ability to wonder “why” has to be one of the most rewarding aspects of consciousness. But then again, that’s just the opinion of a reasonably intelligent college graduate who may never be capable of providing (financially) for his own family because he’s too busy deciphering the metaphysical implications of “Finnegans Wake.”
